Symbiosis Newsletter #2 – Have You Gazed Into the Future of Your Work Yet?
The groundbreaking generative AI, ChatGPT, captivates the world, democratizing creativity and knowledge for everyone. Its impact on enterprises and societal challenges, risks, and benefits is notable.
With great technology comes great responsibility and, unfortunately,
“The real problem of humanity is the following: we have Paleolithic emotions, medieval institutions and godlike technology.“
(Dr. E.O. WILSON, sociobiologist).
While we might entrust decisions to AI, it inherits human flaws. To mitigate threats, adopt responsible AI practices, invest in research, and establish ethical policies. As AI advances, it eliminates old jobs and creates new ones. Valid fears of job loss exist; the McKinsey Global Institute anticipates significant impacts on workers’ lives. They quoted,
“In about 60% of occupations, at least one-third of the constituent activities could be automated, implying substantial workplace transformations and changes for all workers.“
Accenture asserts companies will use these models to reinvent work, reshaping every role with AI copilots to amplify achievements. Tasks in any job will vary, creating new and unimagined opportunities.
However, Large Language Models have limitations, such as requiring human cleverness to craft prompts, generating nonsensical output, and needing an abstract understanding of truth, falsehood, and common sense.Despite these limitations, there will still be a need for human judgment in content creation, and many types of specialised language will remain out of reach for machines.
The public is ready to embrace new AI tools, unlocking untapped potential for creativity and knowledge work, overcoming job-related risks.
New tasks for humans will include ensuring proper AI system use and embracing a simpler form of human creativity through text prompts for desired results.
AI, automation, and virtual assistants enhance current employee roles rather than replacing them.
Generating excitement around AI requires ensuring people understand how it can ease their jobs. The key difference lies in how people interact with generative AI. Will this advance equity or exacerbate disparities?
